LONGVIEW – Good Shepherd Medical Center’s Nurse-Family Partnership Program, in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), will host free child car seat safety inspections Saturday, April 23.
The first time event will be held from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the parking area across from Good Shepherd Medical Plaza I, behind the CEFCO gas station (705 N. Fourth St., Longview).
TxDOT Certified Child Safety Passenger Technicians will be onsite inspecting child safety seats for proper installation, expiration and recalls. Technicians will ensure parents not only know how to correctly install a safety seat, but that the seat is appropriate for each child’s height and weight.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports most parents are confident they have correctly installed their child’s safety seat, but 59 percent have not. Common child safety seat errors include: installing the seat too loosely; putting the harness straps through the wrong slots; leaving harness straps too loose; positioning the chest clip incorrectly; and using the wrong seat belt path.
Registration is not necessary to participate, but parents are asked to bring the following to the event:
- Your child
- Your vehicle with instruction manual
- Your child’s car seat or booster seat
- Car seat instructions
