FBC hosts Songfellows

First Baptist Church of Gladewater will host the Songfellows Quartet March 19 at 6:30 p.m. The quartet is seen weekly on national TV on the Brush Arbor Jubilee. There is no admission charge, but a love offering will be taken.

Lee Storytime returns

Lee Public Library invites young children to Story Time at Lee Public Library every Wednesday morning at 11 a.m.

This Wednesday we will enjoy two alphabet stories:

Alphabet City by Stephen T. Johnson  and  The Sleepy Little Alphabet by Judy Sierra.  We will also have a coloring activity featuring the alphabet.

Opry lineup

The Gladewater Opry will host “Shake, Rattle & Roll” and Elvis tribute artist James Wages on Friday. Saturday night the Opry will host Kimberly Drum, Carson Wallace, Sara Bryan, Courtney Taylor, Sid Cox, Mallory Wallace, Sadie Evans, Southern Koast and The Texas Smoke Band. Tickets for both nights are adults $10 and children $5.

Grace Baptist revival

Grace Baptist Church at 212 E. George Richey Road will hold a revival March 16-20 with Ohio evangelist Jared Williams bringing the message. Services Wednesday through Saturday are at 7 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. Jim Withers is pastor of the family of faith.

Storytime is on Thursday in Gilmer

GILMER–Two books will be read to small children at both of the Upshur County Library’s two weekly “Storytime” sessions Thursday.

“When Spring Comes” by Kevin Henkes, and “Butterfly Park” by Elly Mackay, will be read at the 10 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. sessions at the library, 702 W. Tyler (which is also Texas Hwy. 154.) Special Olympics sponsors needed

GILMER–The Kiwanis Club of Gilmer is seeking sponsors for the Special Olympics it will host April 1.

A minimum $100 donation is required to list the sponsor’s name on tee-shirts for the event at Gilmer High School, said Kiwanian Charlotte Carter. Anyone interested in sponsoring may call her at 903-790-1311.

Health fair planned in Marshall

Texas State Technical College in Marshall will host a Health and Community Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 1 at the South Building Visitor’s Entry. The campus is at 2650 East End Blvd. North in Marshall.

Some of the agencies that will have representatives at the event include the East Texas Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Be A Match Bone Marrow Registry, the East Texas Affiliate of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Choice Dental Clinic and HealthCare Express.

Upshur County Health Fair set March 5

Health, Wellness, and Safety are the focus of the 34th Upshur County Free Health Fair scheduled Saturday, March 5.

The fair, sponsored by the Gilmer Area Chamber of Commerce, is set from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Gilmer Civic Center, said event chairman Julie York. An effort has been made to expand the fair to serve not only senior citizens, she said.

Upshur Libertarian Party to hold convention

GILMER–The Upshur County Libertarian Party will hold its precinct convention for all precincts in the county March 8, and its county convention March 12, county Libertarian Chairman Vance Lowry announced Monday.

The earlier convention will be at 7 p.m. on a Tuesday at Las Fuentes Mexican Restaurant in downtown Gilmer.  The second convention will also be held there at 4 p.m. on a Saturday.

St. James hosting Grandparents’ Day

St. James Missionary Baptist Church will host a Grandparents’ Day on March 6 at its 11 a.m. Sunday service and on March 19 will host a Musicians’ Appreciation at its 6 p.m. service.

Cherokee Rose Republican Women to meet

GILMER–Conservative author Nick Adams will address the public monthly meeting of the Cherokee Rose Republican Women on Monday night, March 14.

The public is invited to the 6:30 p.m. event at the Lantana Activity Center on Lantana Road outside Gilmer. Light refreshments will be served.

Adams, an Australian, “speaks from personal experience about the eradication of freedom when a nation loses its right to bear arms,” said Cherokee Rose President Cynthia Ridgeway.

His lastest book is Retaking America: Crushing Political Correctness. Adams has appeared on numerous television and radio programs.
