Two killed in I-20 wreck

On July 27, 2016 at approximately 3:55 PM, troopers responded to a two vehicle fatal crash on I-20 in Smith County three miles east of the city of Lindale.

The Texas Department of Public Safety reports a preliminary crash investigation revealed that a 2013 Subaru Forrester was traveling East on IH-20 when the driver failed to recognized traffic ahead had slowed due to construction.  The driver of the Subaru ran into the back of the towed trailer of a 2016 Peterbuilt truck tractor.

The driver of the Subaru was identified as Isaac Clay, 35 years-old of Royse City.  Clay was pronounced dead at the scene by Judge James Cowart, his body was taken to Caudle Rutledge Funeral home in Lindale.  Also killed in the crash was 8 year-old Sebastian Clay, also of Royse City.  He was also pronounced by Judge Cowart, his body taken to the same funeral home.  Another passenger in the Subaru was a 9 year-old girl who was taken to ETMC-Tyler in stable condition.

The driver of the Peterbuilt truck was identified as Charles Lopez, 47 years-old of Compton, CA.
