The Union Grove Lady Lions continued their unbeaten streak through District 16-2A with wins over Harleton and Carlisle last week. The Lady Lions topped the Harleton Lady Wildcats, 59-20 at home last Tuesday and defeated Carlisle on the road, 62-27. The Lady Lions are 6-0 in district with an overall record of 20-4 this season.
The Lady Lions begin their second round through district competition on Tuesday, January 15 at Hawkins. On Friday, January 18, Union Grove will host Overton.
Last Tuesday at the Lions’ Den, Union Grove surged to 17-5 lead as Macey Alston scored 8 of her team high 23 points in the first quarter. She hit five 3-pointers in the game. Teammates Madelyn Lacasze and Carleigh Judd contributed 14 and 15 points respectively as the Lady Lions routed the Harleton 59-20. The Lady Lions forced multiple turnovers that lead to points as well as dominated the paint on both sides of the court.
In Friday’s contest, it was the trio of Alston with 18 points; Lacaze with 15; and Judd with 14, led Union Grove to a 62-27 victory over Carlisle. The Lady Lions pounced on Carlisle early with a 16-2 lead at end of the first quarter. With a 31-11 halftime lead, Union Grove cruised through the second half.
Congratulations to Coach J.B. Littlejohn, who was recognized by his team and the Union Grove fans last Tuesday night for his 100th win as the head basketball coach of the Lady Lions basketball program. The 100th win came against Gladewater in the Hallsville Classic on December 27th. Coach Littlejohn has a record of 104-23 in his three and a half season at Union Grove. His career record as a basketball coach is 337-199.
