Latest audit report shows WOISD finances getting back on track

With auditors’ fresh stamp of approval on White Oak ISD’s books, administrators are seeing more light at the end of the tunnel.
The district’s audit report took up a healthy portion of trustees’ regular meeting Monday, Jan. 13.
“Our audit report came in, and it came in on time in January like it should,” Superintendent Jack Parker said. “The three findings we had the prior year are gone. We had no significant findings on our audit.
Working with Paris-based Malnory, McNeal & Company, “The auditor is pleased with the progress our business office has made, so we feel like we’re on the right track.”
He praised both WOISD Business Manager Carrie Howard and consultant Revard Pfeffer on their ongoing efforts to improve the district’s business practices.
“She does a really good job,” Parker said. Likewise, “He’s been a great mentor. He’s training the staff. It’s been really good to have his expertise here.”
Following a closed session discussion, the school’s trustees approved an extension of Parker’s contract through January 2028.
Parker officially took the reins at the school in mid-August. Moving forward, the goal is to get back to a regular annual evaluation, he said.
“We’re going to look at the evaluation this next time in July after test scores are in. They’ll try to get it back on track,” he added. “The evaluation happens in January, but we’re still young as a team of eight.
Similarly, “We’ve had several trainings from Region VII come in. They’re going to keep training us through summer so I can get campus evaluations in place.”
The district is also moving forward in a joint venture with Champion’s Choice Coffee Co., working with Minutemen Coffee on a bespoke brew in which a portion of sales will benefit the school.
“Hopefully we’re going to kick that off here in the next week,” Parker said.
