New builds add $2.7 million to WO tax rolls

Several White Oak businesses are expanding and multiple homes are under construction – since April, permits approved by city hall have added an estimated $2.68 million to the community’s taxable value.
According to White Oak City Secretary & Finance Director Kristine Toon, multiple permits were pulled for the revitalization of the Roughneck Center convenience store across from White Oak ISD.
“They are completely remodeling it, head to toe,” she said, including a TABC-approved expansion to add beer and wine sales to the operation.
Meanwhile, Shoco Development pulled permits in May for a 4,800 square-foot commercial property at 1607 Moody, and Patriot Process Equipment has added more office space at 2212 E. Old Hwy. 80.
In addition to new residences and multiple home remodeling projects, a commercial expansion at White Oak Radiator should be complete by mid-November.
“They’re building several new offices and shops on Superior Road. They’re growing,” Toon said.
The City of White Oak doesn’t have any major construction projects in the pipeline at the moment, she added, but the city’s portion of the George Richey expansion is complete – the overall TxDOT project is ongoing.
“We will be beginning our part of the Hwy. 42 expansion sometime in Fiscal Year 2024-2025,” she said. At the same time, “There has been some interest on Superior Road for a development. They’ll be going to the (Planning & Zoning Commission) to ask for variances on Oct. 29.”
