Spring citywide clean-up set April 12

Thursday was the vernal equinox – aka the First Day of Spring – leaving plenty of time for Spring Cleaning to get things de-cluttered and boxed up before Gladewater’s annual ‘City-Wide Clean-up Day’ April 12.
Large-scale containers will once again be positioned by the railroad track along E. Commerce Street that Saturday morning from 8 a.m. to noon, and locals will be required to show proof of residence (i.e. a water bill) when dropping off their detritus.
The City of Gladewater hosts the public clean-up effort twice a year in Spring (April) and Fall (October). Everything’s welcome for the trash-off, with some key exceptions.
No loose garbage is permitted – bulky waste only. No dirt, rock or sand can be disposed off. No glass, tires or construction materials is permitted (including concrete, pallets, ceramic, tile, sheet rock and roofing materials). No materials resulting from contractual work or commercial activities will be accepted.
No hazardous materials can be disposed, nor any paint, batteries, motor oil or items that contain refrigerant, such as refrigerators, freezers and air conditioning units. Refrigerant units can be accepted but only if they have been tagged by a certified technician as verified free of CFC’s.
Residents have access to ‘Do It Yourself’ Trash Disposal year-round. Though the City of Gladewater does not operate a landfill, citizens may use Republic Services’ Pine Hill landfill (southeast of Gladewater near Hwy. 31 at FM 1252). The monthly drop-off amount is determined by the landfill – for more information, contact Republic Services at 903-986-5324.
