Saturday morning at approximately 1:09 AM, Troopers responded to a one vehicle fatal crash on SH-43, two miles south of the city of Marshall in Harrison County. Preliminary crash reporting indicates that the driver of a 2010 Ford Crown Victoria, Latavion Demon Jackson, 18, of Marshall was traveling north on SH-43 at an unsafe speed on the wet roadway. The vehicle hydroplaned and traveled off the roadway where it struck a tree with its back right.
The driver was transported to LSU Medical in Shreveport in serious condition. A passenger, identified as Derrick Lamon Bennet, 17, of Marshall, was transported to Christus Good Shepherd – Marshall in critical condition where he later died. Another passenger, identified as a 16 year-old male, was transported to Christus Good Shepherd – Marshall in stable condition. Another passenger, identified as a 16 year-old male was pronounced at the scene by Judge Clarice Watkins. Preliminary information shows none of the occupants of the vehicle were wearing seatbelts.
